Polyfuze Graphics TestingHave you ever wondered how one graphic or label supposedly works on so many different types of plastics such as ABS, Polycarbonate, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polystyrene, as well as many others?

For years, graphic and label companies have tried to come up with a label that “sticks” to a wide variety of different types of plastics. They have tried looking for more effective adhesives or substrates trying to get the logos or warnings that are comprised of inks, then layered on top of these adhesives and substrates, to stay put. They then coat the inks with a clear protective barrier, trying to protect the inks from wearing away. This is a lot of steps for something that eventually wears off when introduced to harsh environmental conditions and chemical exposure.

We got to thinking, maybe that’s not the best way to do things. Maybe a “one fits all” method just simply isn’t the answer. Maybe each graphic should be specially formulated for the particular type of plastic it’s going to be applied to.

That’s where we come in. We found a niche market. Polyolefin plastics are the largest group of thermoplastics and are traditionally much cheaper plastics to injection mold. They have incredible durability and chemical resistance properties. The term polyolefin actually means “oil-like”, and therein lies the reason many companies either avoid using polyolefins or don’t really attempt to decorate them. Due to its oil-like feel and nature, nothing wants to “stick” to it. Decorating it is difficult to say the least.

At Polyfuze Graphics™ Corporation, we decided to reinvent the wheel where graphics for polyolefin plastics are concerned!

How? We don’t print with inks, we don’t print on adhesives and we don’t use a clear coat to protect our graphics. Our graphics are literally comprised of pigmented polyolefins, just like the plastic part they are being applied to… that’s right, I said PLASTIC.

When applied with a traditional hot stamp machine with high heat…we literally “fuse” our polyolefin graphic into your polyolefin plastic product. The two then become “one” and can never be separated!

This is revolutionary for the injection mold world for a few reasons. First, it opens the door to using polyethylene and polypropylene in place of more expensive plastics for many applications. Polyfuze Graphics Corporation VP, Jason Brownell, recently presented at SPE’s Topcon in Detroit. After the presentation, he was approached and was told the automotive industry does not use a great deal of olefin materials. When he asked why, they told him “because we could never decorate it, until now.” Our technology is also revolutionary because it allows for superior chemical resistance, since the graphic takes on the same characteristics as the plastic product once applied.

Finally, it is the world’s only truly permanent graphic for polyolefin plastics. To support this claim, our research and development laboratory has invested in extensive testing.
